Q: What is a GoCar?
A: GoCar is the world's first computer-guided storytelling car. The clever talking car navigates for you, but that's not all. As you drive, it points out the sights and tells you the stories that bring San Francisco to life.
Q: How long does the tour take?
A: The tour can take as long as you like – that's the whole point. You go at your own pace, not the pace set by a tour bus operator. As you go, you're choosing the attractions you want to stop and see. You can complete the tour in as little as one hour if your time is limited. You can also make it a leisurely day trip if you'd rather, stopping to explore attractions or museums along the way. It's totally your choice. If you're having the time of your life, keep exploring! It's a fantastic city and there is plenty to see. The average tour duration is 2 hrs 30 mins.
Q: Can I stop along the way?
A: Of course. Like we've said, you set your own pace. The car always knows where you are and you can park anywhere you want (motorcycle parking or car parking) for as long as you want, and as soon as you start to drive again, the car will begin to talk!
Q: Do you have to stay on the tour?
A: Absolutely not! If there is a San Francisco sight you wish to see but is not yet included on the tour, just use the map we provide to navigate your own way through the city streets. You can even put a CD in the stereo and enjoy music along the way!
Q: Can I cross the Golden Gate Bridge?
A: No, but our tour will navigate you to Fort Point. Here the bridge soars about 200-feet above your head. It is possible to gain pedestrian access to the bridge span from the car park at the bridge vantage point.
Q: Can the GoCar climb all of San Francisco’s hills?
A: GoCar can all hills with one person, but with a passenger onboard there are some hills that it cannot climb, like the ones the cable cars can climb. The Gocar Still manages to get to some of the highest summits of the City like Twin Peaks, Lombard St. The GPS routes you on approaches that the car can handle.
Q: What is GoCar's reservation policy?
A: Call the toll free number 1-800-91-GoCar to reserve a date and time. Or book your tour online. Please make a reservation at least 24-hours in advance. Name, the number of people in you party and a cell phone number will be requested as well. Reservations for weekdays are accepted between 8 am and 5 pm. Weekend reservations are advisable. There are a limited number of vehicles available for rental; therefore large parties may require coordination by our staff.
Q: Do you have foreign-language tours?
A: Our GoCars speak 5 languages! When you arrive, you may request a tour in Italian, Spanish, French, German or English. On a foreign-language tour, the GoCar will provide clear driving directions and tour narration in your language of choice.
Q: How many points of interest can I expect to encounter on the tour?
A: There are well over 50 historical points and landmarks along the guided tour.
Q: How fast does the car go?
A: The GoCar will do 35-mph. Note that drivers in San Francisco do not typically drive fast, therefore an average speed of 30-mph or less can be expected while driving.
Q: Is the GoCar electric or Gasoline-powered?
A: Our cars are powered by a gas engine that gets 60+ MPG. A full tank of gas will usually give a 60 mile range. We are hoping for an electric version in the future.
Q: How many people can fit in a GoCar?
A: A maximum of 2 people are able to ride in the vehicle.
Q: How old do you have to be to rent a GoCar?
A: You must be over 18 years of age to rent a GoCar. We will use our discretion, however, with people under the age of 21 and especially with larger groups.
Q: Is vehicle insurance available and how much does it cost?
A: Yes, the daily collision damage waiver (CDW) for the rental is similar to a car rental and costs $9/day for the GoCar if elected by the driver.
Q: How do I get there?
A: We have two central locations - GoCar Union Square and GoCar Fisherman's Wharf - close to San Francisco hotels, tourist attractions and convention center. You can pick up and drop off cars at either location.
Q: What clothing is appropriate for the convertible in San Francisco?
A: San Francisco is consistently sunny but with a little chill, especially out by Ocean Beach. The City year round temperature is 65 degrees. Bring a fleece jacket or something comparable and store it in the GoCar's trunk. We can loan warm clothing too. Just ask!
Q: Do you sell GoCar gift certificates or GoCar merchandise?
A: We do sell gift certificates for GoCar tours in San Francisco. It's a popular gift to give someone who will be visiting San Francisco. Please go to our Store page or call 1-800-91-GoCar to order. We also sell GoCar t-shirts and hats in-store.
